LUCK – Hindi Movie Review

luck-movie-posterBasically I don’t understand why these types of movies are made in Bollywood. Movies which are sense less ,meaningless and involve just 2 or 3 item songs and shoot in different countries for no reason and which the movies makers themselves don’t know what they want to portray and what they expect from the movie goers.

LUCK is one of the devastating movies I have seen in recent times and one among the movies which has the characteristics mentioned above. It has many well known names like Sanjay Dutt, Mithun Chakraborthy, Danny Denzogpa and coupe of budding actors and actresses. But did they utilize them, definitely not, in this Movie. A small idea of LUCK cannot just take the movie on its own, (whatever happens, portrayed that it was due to LUCK – how “lewd”). I think this is enough to say that watching this movie is a feral experience and people who are clever enough will not continue reading this review.

Well LUCK has a stale story line with bizarre sequences. Mousa (Sanjay Dutt) is a made up guy roaming keeping luck in his pocket. He hires Danny Denzogpa for which he wants him to search for some people who have luck in their lives. He then follows Ram (Imran Khan) and make him accept his invitation to join hands with him so that he can get a lot of money (Ram will be flaccid situation for which he accepts the invitation). In the same way some other people all over the world (one of them will be Ayesha -played by Sruthi Hassan). And then he makes them to play games (Ghastly games which involves killing people among themselves and whoever is survived are considered to be lucky). He bets their luck in the market and makes money. (If you have seen Death Race you can easily understand the concept- concept of online betting). Some of the Zealot characters will come and go in the middle of the movie and movies ends with the remaining people (Obviously who will be remaining without being dead – Imran, Sruthi, Mithun) and the movie ends showing these people get their promised money and become rich. If you want some more tardy sequences, go and watch the movie and make sure that you not make fun of this movie in the cinema and don’t think “Why the Hell I have seen this movie”.

Scrutiny:-

  1. It is also one of the movie which opens with the Dialogue saying “MUMBAI….. yah ape aisa hei , waisa hei , yeha pe paisa woh hota hei , yeh hota hei….” What a crap, what does the directors want to show saying his intentions with connecting a City? (The movie does not involve a single sequence which is connected to Mumbai – everything is out of country).

2. Sruthi, what is she doing acting in such films, I ask her not to spoil the Image of her Legend father. May be she is incipient; she should take care of career not only as a budding actress but also as a daughter of a Legend in Indian cinema (Dr.Padmasree Kamal Hassan).

3. Same applies to Imran khan, well he has done justice to his character (definitely it was a sedulous effort by Imran Khan). But he has also an option taking tips from his uncle who is well versed with creative thoughts and with good film making.

4. The character Mousabhai suited Sanjay Dutt well but that too was abated. The character of Mithun Chakraborthy as a Army Major was weltered and there was no option left to make his character exotic.

5. How can a director or a Bollywood movie make huge mistakes like this or are they just taking everything for granted thinking the Audience will precipitate any crap they show. Some of them are :-

a)Train sequence which was supposed to be in Cape Town (in the movie), it was shot in some part of south Indian location – a small village. In the 15 min sequence I have seen, 1) a board written in Tamil. 2) Brown colored iron poles (carrying current wires) which are seen in still some parts of India. 3) Ambience which every person will recognize that it was shot in India. May be the director had forgotten in which location he has to shoot the action sequence or may be budget was not sufficient to shoot in South Africa (place where the entire movie was shot – These were the comments heard in the hall he he…)

b) How can a helicopter appear whenever it wants or let’s say where ever it wants? In one sequence when Imran Khan rejects a deal and turns around and leaves, a helicopter appears suddenly from bottom and Sanajy Dutt will be seen in that. (Will the noise made by the helicopter will be that low that when a person sees with his eyes a helicopter in front of his eyes will notice that someone has come in helicopter. WTF )

c)Landing a Jet Plane on the train just like that. Wow what a brilliant idea.

6. Dialogues were like, forcibly told by the actors where they were not required. The dialogues were phlegmatic and were told with banality.

7. It was unnecessary time taken for the introductions of all characters one by one on the screen ( just creating a void to introduce them – it was like models walking on the ramp one by one and at last come with the designer together.

8. It is portrayed in the movie that whatever happens in any person’s life it was just because of LUCK , but the justification was not justified J

9. The most humorous part of the movie was the climax- Sanjay Dutt shoots Imran on his left part of the chest, but Imran will be saved as usual but the director has made the case bit more humorous by showing that Imran’s heart is not present on the left side of his body but is present on the right side of the Body and the Doc says he is lucky enough that he is saved just because of this reason. Well further going forward we may see lungs at the bottom and liver at the top , brain at the elbows , wat say???? Just kidding guys..

Bottom Line: – Sruthi was not lucky to make this as her Debut movie , Imran has no luck as this film is a block buster and people who have seen this movie including me were not lucky.

Watching LUCK is an unlucky experience.

Kalavaramaye Madilo – Movie review

wp-22kalavaramayemadilo800Many of us should know the importance of the Indian Music, how beautiful it is and how elegant it is and many such things. In this era of modernization we forget the beauty of melody created by Flute, tabla, the veena and many such instruments. Today people like to learn Guitar and drums (very few show interest in Flute and tabla etc) but how many of them know the basics of the Music (The Saptha Swaralu-SaReGaMa, the Ragam and the Sruthi….). There are many people who sing  just having  good voice, but there is difference between people who sing with knowledge of  the basics and people without.

Well “Kalavaramaye Madilo” tells about that difference. It’s basically about the greatness of Indian Music and tells how a person with good voice can make a difference with knowledge of  the basics and how they can sing with élan.

But this is not all, what is important is this is a movie and the troop are trying to bring it to the Audience to show all these. But they should have thought very carefully before presenting it to the audience .They could have taken more care in some of the aspects like the Cast, the cinematography, the script and screenplay, but they have lagged in that .

Coming to the storyline… Shreya (Swathi) is a good singer with good voice and she has a dream to sing in one of the A.R.Rahman composition. But ,once she will be insulted by an old musician (Vikram Gokhale-Aish’s father in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam),here she will be discouraged and want to learn music with him and wants to know where she lags.In the due course ,she meets Kamal. (UK Return) and  chemistry between them ……In the mean time  manages to learn the basics of Music with Vikram Gokhale and she at last manages to win a chance to sing in AR Rahman’s composition (don’t ask me in which way she got the chance –because this the final shock the movie gave me for what I have thought what and why am I watching this).

Overall the experienced actors were good at delivering their performances, taking Tanikella Bharini has made justice to his character.Vikram has done his job ,ofcourse Swathi – she was good at her character, Kamal should have been better. Well  the director has justified his intentions just by having a twist in the second half.(Sorry cannot put it here).

Scrutiny

1. The voice of Vikram Gokhale has been given by the Maestro SP Balasubramanyam. And it was awesome.
2. And Swathi’s freeness in acting was good (this was the saving grace of the first half of the movie).
3. Songs – Not bad and not good even.
4. The Reality show part of the movie, many were saying that how can some show being shot now can be seen live? May be this cannot be taken as a negative point of the movie as the same concept was also followed in Slumdog Millionaire , but people accepted it. Rite?
5. Showing the importance of the Music  was good.
6. The dialogues were good and inspirational but the situation did not support the sequence , apart from that just the dialouges were very good.

7. Why the star cast has been selected in that way? (Swathi being very short and kamal being very tall). The director had to substantiate it.
8. As the movie revolves around Swathi and there is no importance given to the male lead actor –anyone can do the same what that actor has done. Then a hero  who can suit Swathi’s personality  should have been casted. For me they were looking like brother and sister rather than a couple.
9. The cinematography was out of question, it is one of the important reason of the movie for not impressing the audience; Majority of the scenes were blurred and the camera man failed to capture the beautiful locations (one song shot in Kerala on boat in the water).
11. The director should know that when there are no such sequences , the  success of the movie lies upon the shoulders of the cast by which people watching the movie should not get bored or seeing their performances.
12. Why the open shirt for Kamal in a song? Just to show that he too has six pack?
13. How can a person enter directly to finals of a reality show in one day?

Bottom Line :-  Good concept but not a good movie. It would have been good if the the presentation of the movie  was just dramatic or just as a comercial piece. But the director has failed as he wanted to make the movie as a drama and comercial piece simultaneously due to which ,the reception was not good.

When Help is Most Needed!

front_coverWhen a friend of mine who is a US return was chatting with me ragarding his experiences in the US , he mentioned a Incident on one long weekend when they were returning from NewYork met with an Accident. But due to God’s grace it was a not a major Accident but people sitting inside the car were shocked and were bleeding in some parts of the Body. But ok not very serious.
One of his friend was bleeding fron nose. Just then before knowing what has happened they herad a siren and these people were already out of the car. They have seen it was an Ambulance (felt how the hell they knew this) took them and at the same time a Police Patrol car was already there. One of the police official enquiring abot the Accident.
They were taken to the hospital and as everyone except one(whose node was bleeding) was ok , so they took him to the OT and asked one of his friends to come with him(so this guy went with him). They were very happy to see a Indian Doctor. He was talking with dignity and these people felt that they have found a family member. He was talking in regional language (Telugu) and came to know that the boys were from Hyd and he himself introduced his name , profession and the City he came from (Vizag). He has checked the boys condition and gave a confidence nod that everything was OK and he intoduced to the OT staff and gave a pleasant smile and left. The other OT staff(Not indians) were also very generous and helpful till they came out of the hospital.
They thought that the Doctor was very generous and helpful because he is an Indian. But to some extent they were not satisfied with the conclusion they made as the other staff were equally generous.
They came to know that it wasn’t that feeling of same land but it was ‘American Law requires all Hospitals to examine and treat anyone who needs emergence medical care as soon as they are brought in’.And at the same time treatment needn’t required to be free;but it cannot be delayed or the case of morotorium. In the US hospitals and physicians who refuse to treat such patients pay fines.

Is it the same in our own INDIA? here GOD only knows how many accident victims die because of accidents every year and due to improper or immediate care is not available. Many Hospitals try to temporize the situation unless they can put down enough cash .And what is the Govt doing for this kind of dormancy? If it has left for State Govt , how many states are following these?

What is happening today in all govt hospitals and Private hospitals?
Private hospitals are jsut hungry of Money and Govt Hospiltals out of Box. If a patient dies and may be or may be not if it is a Doctors fault and if the Patients Relatives are running into tears and if they man handle a Doctor ; as a reason for his relative death , can a doctor cant justify ? Now all the doctors go on strike just saying that that person should apoligize. How ridiculous -their relatives are in situation where no one can predit what is running in their mind and now these doctors ask for apoligize and make strikes? This will also lead to other regions in the city.

In Hyd in one of the Govt Hospital saw a attendant scolding a poor patient for his sickness and asking him to get out of his sight in a brutal language. So why the hell hopitals are? Are they for healthy people? Yes people like these patients will come. It is the staff duty to treat them.
And one patient came with CM relief fund letter and doesnt know whom he should show and ending up in paying some dilatory person some money to take that letter to the Higher Officials.
In that hospitals i have even once seen people asking to buy gold as they need money for their family persons operation. Who is responsible for this? Poeple come from different rural areas and sleep on footpaths.Media will do their job just snapping them and pasting in their so called Personal Papers( They are not news papers as News Papers have become Personal {Papers of politicians) to counter attack each other.

In Corporate Hospitals also the situation is more worse(as in Govt Hospitals there will be only few hundreds or incipient of thousands rupees.
In one Corporate Hospital my friend has admitted his father and after 7 days(which was actually not required) changed them 40,000 bucks. When questioned they gave an explanation and in that many flaws-One of them was billung for room for the whole 2 days( the night he admitted his father and the morning they dischanged his father – will these days count?) After all quereis and due to counting mistake (Computer counting 🙂 ) the bill has reduced to just around 18,000. WTF is this 22,000 extra? Who woll question?(hospital owned by big persons). Gone with the wind. Ok My frined was intelligent and was Literate. In the same place if some Illiterate oruneducated person.???????????

It should not remain this way there needs to be a change in the way these matters are handled.Wat say – what can be done? Will it change?

Bottom Line : – This is just a compilation of my thoughts.

Oy!-Telugu Movie Review

mainOy! A sweet romantic love story and a typical Siddarth movie which is not handled well enough and could be done well if some care was taken care of the timing and the screenplay. Well it involves all the emotions present in every movie. The main theme has been inspired (and some scenes) from a Hollywood movie – A walk to Remember. But the director was good at rebuilding the story for presenting to Telugu Audience. But lacking somewhere, the Director was not able to make people sit till the end. The start itself was revealing that there’s going to be something which is very emotional and sentimental (which people already came to know the climax of the movie). The music is the plus point of the movie. Songs were simply good, Yuvan has done it again. The director may be had to re-think regarding the selection of the Lead Actress (Shamili- baby Shamili).
The movie starts with Uday(Sid) sitting on a bench in a bench with back drop people enjoying the party and also a hoarding written as Welcome 2009 and he has some dialogues in which he mentions that Jan 1st is his Birth day and he is not celebrating. And the movie goes to flashback.
Uday is a rich guy lives in OZ and is a reserved kind of girl who thinks life as a long journey and many things can be done in this long life. In the mean span of time story goes on and on Jan1st 2007 they both meet in a Pub.(Uday will be India for the New Year and at the same time it happens to be his Birth Day).In the due course Uday is able to get all the information of SANDHYA and somehow manages to get into the beautiful house of her on the beach as a paying guest. And one particular day on SANDHYA’s Birth day he gifts 12 gifts (11 all different and the 12th one is him itself offering him to her and Proposes her. He gives her a day time to tell her opinion. Before this Sunil (Insurance Agent) approaches to make a policy of insurance and she denies saying she is not having any Nominees so she will not make a policy. After one day Sunil will come home of SANDHYA to hand over the policy to her (the signing of the policy will be shown in a song which is not stressed). But he finds the door is locked and hands over the policy to Uday who is her Nominee Uday feels very happy that she has expressed her love in this form making him the Nominee and not saying through words.
In between we see some shots of SANDHYA going to a Doctor for check up. The same doctor will call Uday and tells him that the Insurance Policy has been rejected of Sandhya as she has Dreadful cancer and needs Operation. He will not tell her and a there afterwards a series of consequences occur where Sunil wants to let her know that her policy has been rejected becoz….(the cancer). But Uday never let it happen.
Uday now wants to show her a life where she has not seen in her life time and makes a list of her wishes .The first one being a trip to Kasi. Here they travel to Kasi in a cruise to Kolkata and then catch a train and then reach kasi. (in this journey they come across Ali ,Praddep Ravat etc.
And blah..blah..the story has been elongated and at last she dies on his(Uday’s) birth day. And the movie goes into the opening point where Uday sits on the bench and movie ends with some typical dialogues. This is the only story line which second half has and can be seen and explained at max up to this level.

Scrutiny:-
The film has not been able to impress the audience and the good side of it has been the beautiful songs and some exceptional camerawork which is the saving grace. The second half loses track completely and leaves the audience disconnected after a fabulous first half.
Cinematography is good. Editing is up to the mark. Dialogues are also up to the requirement. Direction has suffered ups and downs and the production values deserve a very good mention.
Cinematography is good. Editing is up to the mark. Dialogues are also up to the requirement. Direction has suffered ups and downs and the production values deserve a very good mention.
The comedy was ok but it was Sunil so it was relaxing as he adds additional expressions of what the character needs and the connection of Sunil’s phone ringtone (chatrapathi) and Pradeep Ravat was good the director has justified his intention of having the ringtone for Sunil’s phone in the first half.
In the second half the concept of being at two places at one time was not handled well (how can a phone get messages from two different states saying welcome to our state just in a meter distance – This was scene lifted from A walk to remember where it was handled perfectly).

Bottom Line: – Watch it if you are really patient enough and if you find time and don’t find anything and no option is left for you. If you want entertainment this is not the option for you. Go for it if you like the music and love to watch Cinematography.
